As the federal government shutdown continues, the federal administration threatened not to pay SNAP benefits on November 1. SNAP helps nearly 42 million Americans afford nutritious food essentials.

COFI and POWER-PAC IL Nelly Paredes spoke to Telemundo Chicago about how the SNAP suspension would impact her children’s health and nutrition. At a time when families are experiencing higher grocery prices, utility bills, and more, now is NOT the time to cut this critical program and create a food crisis. Thank you to Nelly and all the advocates who have been speaking up for SNAP!

As of November 3, a federal judge ruled the Trump administration MUST pay SNAP benefits despite the government shutdown. However, payments have been delayed and the federal administration will only pay half the amount that people typically receive.
