U.S. Department of Education Director of Community Outreach Alberto Retana came to meet with POWER-PAC parent leaders on March 17th. They held a wide-ranging, two-hour dialogue where they talked about what the federal government can do to support the engagement of parents in urban education, and POWER-PAC leaders shared their concerns about what needs to change including ideas about how to overcome access barriers to quality preschool, how to bring restorative justice practices to public elementary schools, and the need for recess during the school day.
