Heather Bunker, Co-Chair of POWER-PAC’s Recess, Food and Health Committee, and COFI organizer Patricia Islas joined advocates from the Greater Chicago Food Depository and the Illinois No Kid Hungry Campaign for a 3-day National Anti-Hunger Policy Conference. They met with federal, state and local government officials and advocates to focus on strategies that work for addressing hunger and food insecurity at both the local and national levels.
Heather and Pati also joined fellow conference attendees for a day of Capitol Hill advocacy, visiting, among others, Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL), and Representatives Danny Davis (D-IL7), Tami Duckworth (D-IL8), and Luis Gutierrez (D-IL4) to push for continued support of the federal school lunch, summer meals, WIC and SNAP programs and other food and nutrition supports for low-income families.
