“As calls grow for an end to in-school police officers, young organizers and some elected officials say the money should be reallocated to mental health resources for Chicago Public School students…

Dexter Leggin, a member of Community Organizing and Family Issues and parent of two black men, said that when entering school, the first person his children saw every morning was a police officer.

‘We are raising kids to go to jail,’ Leggin said. ‘If a kid’s having a problem in school, they need someone to talk to, not to arrest them.’”
