As Congress considers expanding the federal child tax credit (CTC), COFI and POWER-PAC IL Parent Leader LeAnn Swain (East St. Louis) spoke to WCIA 3 News about how the 2021 CTC helped her get household necessities for her family.

“During the pandemic, LeAnn Swain was a stay-at-home mom taking care of her five kids. At that time, their father got laid off from his job.
‘That was our entire income out the window,’ Swain said.
But they were getting some financial help through the Child Tax Credit.
‘It helped make up for things that we couldn’t get that we needed, may have been food or household necessities, like toilet paper or water or whatever, or even clothes for our kids,’ Swain said.”
