A coalition of parents, community members, funders, and nonprofits achieved a major policy victory in 2024 when the first-ever child tax credit was passed in Illinois. It took nearly three years, but it’s a testament to the power of coalition-based advocacy and the importance of parent voices!
Tracy Occomy Crowder, COFI Deputy Director of Policy and External Affairs, joined coalition partners from the Economic Security Project, the Center on Budget & Policy Priorities, and the Michael Reese Health Trust on The Chicago Community Trust’s podcast to talk about this policy win, building people power, and taking collective action. Shout out to all parents involved in the Stepping Out of Poverty Campaign who were a part of this coalition and spoke up to win this credit for families!
