For the 4th consecutive year, POWER-PAC and COFI have partnered with the Greater Chicago Food Depository and the Illinois No Kid Hungry Campaign to run the Food Ambassador outreach project. Parent leaders go door-to-door throughout Chicagoland to spread the word about free summer meals for children.

Last year, the team of Ambassadors knocked on 9,782 doors in 6 weeks. This year, they are excited to expand their reach to include Cicero in the suburbs. The Ambassadors’ efforts were recently highlighted in this WBBM Newsradio piece.

The goal of the project is to use the power of parent-to-parent outreach to increase awareness of the summer meal programs and to end childhood hunger. For more information on the work, check out page 4 of the “Chicago Summer Meals Brief 2014.”
