In 2018, East St. Louis Parent Leaders (Parents United for Change – PUFC) won historic legislation when HB5195 passed, ensuring all students in District 189 would receive free school bus services. However, parents and community members have been seeing unreliable bus service recently.<\/p>\n

Now, PUFC Leaders are circulating a petition calling for improved school transportation. They are highlighting how transportation problems are leading to safety issues, such as waiting or walking in bad weather.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not acceptable that our kids\u2019 safety be at risk because they can\u2019t find a company that will handle the loads of routes they have,\u201d said Tashonia Hentz<\/strong>, a Parents United for Change member and mother of a District 189 student, to Belleville News-Democrat.<\/p>\n
