Since 1995, we have built a parent-led movement for racial, economic, and educational justice by developing the power and voice of parents (primarily mothers and grandmothers) from Black and Brown communities to shape the public decisions that directly affect their lives. Our vision of equity in living, earning, and learning outcomes for all children and families drives our work.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>The inequities in Black and Brown communities are the result of historical and contemporary injustices, structural racism, biased and discriminatory policies and practices, and the inequitable distribution of resources and opportunities. Understanding and changing these factors remains critical to our efforts to improve community conditions so that all children and families have an equal opportunity to succeed in life. We are committed to examining how systemic inequities impact our work and advocating for changes to the institutions, policies, and systems that create them.<br \/><\/p>\n<p>Our commitment to equity not only underlies our mission, it also shapes every aspect of how we do our work:<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>To build a more just and equitable society, we must acknowledge and dismantle any inequities within our organization, policies, systems, and programs. We are committed to confronting and challenging all forms of institutional oppression within our organization and identifying and addressing internal disparities of power and influence.<\/li>\n<li>To fulfill our mission, we must embody the diversity of the communities we serve. We are intentional in our efforts to recruit diverse parents, staff, board members, and community partners. We respect and value diverse experiences and heritages, and we work to engage, listen to, and understand a variety of perspectives.<\/li>\n<li>We are committed to creating an inclusive organization where all parents, staff, board members, and volunteers, whatever their race, ethnicity, national origin, age, gender identity, sexual orientation or identity, immigration status, education or disability feel included, respected, and heard. We invest in the ongoing work necessary to build and maintain authentic relationships across lines of difference, and we create structures and processes that support this work.<\/li>\n<li>We commit to make our internal and external equity, diversity, and inclusion efforts visible and transparent, and to hold ourselves accountable by continuously reflecting on, learning from, and deepening this work.<\/li>\n<li>Through our organizing and advocacy work, we commit to centering the voices of parent leaders from Black and Brown communities in decision-making around policy and systems change and using an equity lens in our analysis of advocacy priorities and solutions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Declaraci\u00f3n de equidad<\/h5>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>La equidad es central para lo que somos en COFI. Desde 1995 hemos construido un movimiento liderado por los padres para la justicia racial, econ\u00f3mica y educativa por medio del desarrollo del empoderamiento y la voz de los padres (principalmente de las madres y abuelas) de las comunidades negras y de color, para moldear las decisiones p\u00fablicas que afectan sus vidas de forma directa. Nuestra visi\u00f3n de equidad para la vida, los ingresos y los resultados en el aprendizaje de todos los ni\u00f1os y familias impulsa nuestro trabajo.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Las desigualdades en las comunidades negras y de color son el resultado de las injusticias hist\u00f3ricas y contempor\u00e1neas, del racismo estructural, de las pol\u00edticas y pr\u00e1cticas sesgadas y discriminatorias, as\u00ed como de la distribuci\u00f3n desigual de recursos y oportunidades.
